FAQ's

Who is this spreadsheet best suited for?

Business owners in the very early stages who either don't want to learn an accounting software or are not yet able to afford it. Service-based businesses that are operating either as sole-proprietors or single-member LLCs with no inventory, no payroll, no sales tax. Simple business structure with low transaction volume.

Does this replace the need to get Quickbooks?

Yes, temporarily. We always recommend an accounting software, such as Quickbooks Online, to help you have the most accurate accounting records and the ability to reconcile. We also recognize the cost can be too much for some businesses in the very early stages. And that an accounting software sometimes feels a little too complex to learn. It is still extremely important to keep good records of your income and expenses, so we wanted to provide a tool to help with that and get you Set Up for Success.

Are there free options to DIY bookkeeping?

YES! Wave is one. But we don't recommend it. The features that would really help increase automation are not free. And it still leaves you needing to learn an accounting software, which can be overwhelming. Spreadsheets are another option. So we added some bells and whistles to one to make it even more useful for you - and it's not free - but pretty darn close compared to other options.

Should I DIY bookkeeping or work with a bookkeeper?

Both! We always recommend working with a bookkeeper - and not just because that's what we do. We really do think that bookkeeping services help provide business owners the support and peace of mind they need to be able to focus on what they do best! Even for very small businesses, we recommend a couple sessions together to help you get Set Up for Success and periodic check-ins to keep things on track. During those sessions, we can partner with you to put together a plan that best supports your goals and current business phase.
